Counting Scale Comparison for Warehouse & Industrial Applications

Sure you can count out all the bolts that your company has by hand. Same thing for all the screws or washers you may have. The problem is, for most companies that would take A LONG TIME and you would probably get interrupted by a phone call or a text right in the middle of your hand count. And, if you’re like most folks, that would likely lead to a hand counting error.

So, most businesses these days utilize an electronic scale that is specifically designed to make counting parts super easy! Basically, all you do is count out (10) of your #6 x 1-1/4″ Phillips drywall screws and place them on the scale, type in “1” “0” and press the “Sample” key.  Now you can dump the rest of the #6 x 1-1/4″ Phillips drywall screws on your scale and the “counting scale” will calculate how many of those you have.

Accurate parts counting is critical in many warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and inventory control environments. Choosing the right counting scale can reduce errors, save time, and improve operational efficiency.

But how do you choose the best counting scale for your needs? How much does a decent counting scale cost? Why are some counting scales only a couple of hundred dollars while others cost several thousand dollars?

Well, those are great questions and stay tuned we’ll get to some of those questions soon but for today we’re going to compare two popular counting scales that are currently being sold to customers. In this comparison, we’ll take a closer look at two popular counting scales—the Brecknell B140 and the Tree (LW Measurements) LCT X. While both are designed for parts counting, each scale is built a little differently.

Brecknell B140 Counting Scale Overview

The Brecknell B140 is a rugged, general-purpose counting scale designed for industrial and warehouse environments where affordability, durability, and repeatability matter most. There really aren’t any B140 alternatives available, however there are some similar scales available in terms of features and price range.

The B140 is best suited for operations that need a simple, tough, and reliable counting scale without complex software or extended configuration. The B140 can take a little bit of getting used to as the keypad doesn’t necessarily have a button labeled “sample” like many counting scales have. However, once you get the hang of using the B140, it’s not a problem but we thought it was worth mentioning.
